![]() In the 1980s, she was instrumental in helping the LaGrange Presbyterian Church establish an economical shelter and transitional housing for the homeless. She was one of the founding members of the Alpha Sigma Alpha sorority at WIU. Mary was active in many professional, community, and social organizations. Mary was a lifelong learner, holding multiple Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees and a Doctorate. Additionally, Mary taught at North Central College and supervised student teachers for WIU. Mary taught for 60 years in various grade levels, mainly in the LaGrange, IL area, finishing her career teaching high school English at Lyons Township High School and retiring in 1989. She was preceded in death by her husband, daughter, brother, Frederick Weinberg, a sister-in-law, Iola Sapp Myers Weinberg, and a step-nephew, Larry Myers. Numerous Hohe nieces and nephews and the Hecketsweiler and Cowley cousins also survive Mary. Mary is survived by her brother, Tom Weinberg 2 nieces, Julie (Ron) Hiland and Charity Weinberg 2 nephews, Jeffery (Dawn) Weinberg and Neill (Keisha) Weinberg two step-nieces, Sandra (Ben) Hilton and Susie (Jesse) Rivas a step-niece-in-law, Anita Covert Myers, three step-nephews, Meredith (Cathy) Myers, Michael Myers, and Mark (Melinda) Myers, as well as several great-nieces and great-nephews. She married Henry (Hank) Hohe in January 1949, and they were blessed with the light of their lives, Sara Marie, on March 15, 1959. Mary graduated from Augusta Community High School in 1941 and Western Illinois Teachers College (now Western Illinois University) in 1944. She was born on July 7, 1924, in Augusta, IL, to Francis and Rachel (Hecketsweiler) Weinberg. ![]() Hohe, 98, of Augusta, IL, passed away peacefully at 6:45 PM Sunday, January 1, 2023, at the Golden Good Shepherd Home in Golden, IL.
